What can I say?  We come from foodie families…

My cousin Matthew opened up The Chophouse Grille in Mahopac, NY two weeks ago.  So we decided to surprise him and show up for the grand opening!  And by we, I mean the entire Camerino clan.

Upon arriving, we walked into the bar to find it full of people!  The bar area is nice and roomy, with an upscale, classy casual feel.  It’s a friendly environment and comfortable – they even have couch areas to sit down with a small group and enjoy your drinks at.  With an extensive wine, beer, and cocktail menu, there was plenty to choose from!

The nice thing about The Chophouse Grille is that the bar area is separate from the dining room.  So when you’re trying to have a nice dinner, you don’t have to listen a the noisy bar scene in the background.  And the same goes for the bar – you don’t have to stand there on top of people eating.

Now it’s time for dinner.  And there’s so many great choices… it’s hard to choose!   The nice thing about being a big group is that we were able to cover much of the menu at our few tables.

To start:

Tuna Tartare – Diced ahi tuna tossed in sesame oil with a touch of teriyaki glazeserved with black & white sesame seeds

Caesar Salad – Crisp romaine hearts tossed in our homemade caesar dressing with shaved parmigiano cheese

Campagnola Salad – Finely chopped mixed greens tossed with a homemade balsamic vinaigrette & a dash of red wine vinegar topped with diced fresh mozzarella cheese

Buffalo Wings – Served with a special homemade buffalo sauce accompanied with blue cheese dressing garnished carrots & celery

Crispy Fried Calamari – Lightly battered & fried, served with our homemade marinara sauce

French Onion Soup (Mia’s favorite)

For Dinner:

Maryland Style Crab Cake – Served with a homemade yogurt based tartar sauce

Jumbo Fried Shrimp – Panko crusted & fried layed on a bed of braised julienned vegetables, served with 3 dipping sauces

8oz. Filet Mignon & 7oz. Lobster Tail – Bernaise, au pouvre, reduced cabernet au jus, blue cheese crust.Add 3

Atlantic Salmon – Grilled to perfection on herb roasted scalloped potatoes & sauteed spinach finished in a muniere sauce

Jumbo Grilled Shrimp Teriyaki – Grilled & finished in a teriyaki glaze layed on a bed of roasted asparagus

12oz. Skirt Steak

Ahi Tuna – Pan seared & finished ina dijon mustard sauce with a splash of champagne & mascarpone cheese on a bed of julienned vegetables

AND for dessert:

As you can tell, the restaurant really went out with a BANG!  We really enjoyed all the food and the atmosphere.  We look forward to visiting again!
