Last weekend, we attended the 11th annual 2014 Mohegan Sun Winefest and we have to say… it was an absolute blast! The 2014 Winefest offered the following events:
- Bourbon Tasting presented by Beam Inc.
- Long Trail Craft Beer and Food Pairing Featuring Cookbook Author John Holl & Executive Brewer Dave Hartmann
- Sun WineFest Grand Tasting
- Elite Cru Tasting
- Celebrity Chef Dine Around
- Sun WineFest Grand Tasting
- 10th Annual Mohegan Sun Oyster Open Presented by Absolut Tune
We decided to go with The Grand Tasting on Saturday afternoon from 12-5, which boasts over 1,000 national and international wines, spirits, and beers a select group of the regions’s top chefs and restaurants.
Todd English, Donatella Arpaia, and Robert Irvine are just a few of all the great chefs that attended the event. Even our local Southern CT celeb Bill Taibe took the stage.
Here’s a snapshot of our day…
In addition to all the awesome wines, we tasted delicious olive oils and balsamic vinegars…. We LOVE the Bogle wines…
These dishes are a great gift, especially for people who like to cook (like us)! Not only are they pretty, but they are very functional too! It’s called the D-Grater. The bottom of dish is rigid so you can grate cheese, ginger, garlic etc with very little mess. It’s great! They come in dishes and bowls. So we obviously bought two… 😉 You can learn more about the D-Grater here.
And both of our mothers are middle sisters, so this made for a great shot!
This is about the point in the day when the wine really started to get the best of us …
Group shot 🙂
The Whip was definitely one of the many all-stars of the event! I will definitely be on the lookout for this in stores. It is a great white wine that is a mix of EIGHT grape varieties. Click here to learn more!
Another great table we visited was <a href="http://www published here.thecrushclub.net/”>The Crush Club. What’s that you ask? The Crush Club offers new and seasoned wine-makers the opportunity to hand craft their own special vintage.
Using state of the art equipment and sourcing grapes from California, Washington and Italy in the fall and Chile in the spring, The Crush Club assures you to the time of your life while you experience the art of wine making and create delicious wine in a hands on setting. And they are located right in Wallingford, CT.
MORE TO COME ON THE CRUSH CLUB!!
Then we got to the Michael David table and it was all over. We probably spent close to a solid hour at this table. Every single one was perfection. Earthquake, Inkblot, Petit Petit … the list goes on…
Then… the vinegar! You’ve NEVER tasted good balsamic vinegar like this. Trust me! Every taste took me back to Castellina in Chianti. Cavedoni Balsamic Vinegars stole the show as far as vinegars. What’s great about these are that they have such a great variety – from traditional styles to balsamics so aged that they can be used to dress vanilla ice cream! Seriously THAT good. Naturally, I bought 2 of my favorites! Click here to learn more and to purchase.
On the Main Stage, Robert Irvine was giving some fun cooking demos and rallying up the audience. As always, he was busting though his shirt. Hey… the ladies were certainly not complaining 😉
As you can see, we really had a great time! We’ll certainly be going back next year… and probably staying over 😉 There were so many great vendors that we hardly made a DENT in visiting all the tables.
If you like to try a lot of wines, I encourage you to attend next year. It’s really fun and very worth every penny.
