Last weekend, we had the pleasure of trying The Prisoner for the first time.  We decanted the bottle for about a half hour or so and dove right in!  And it was a mind blowing experience …

The Prisoner is a California blend of not only Zinfandel, but also Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Charbono, and Grenache.  So pretty much all our favorite grape varieties! We’ve been very into the red blends lately, so we got really excited about this one.  We can’t wait to have it again.

Dave Phinney launched the wine in 2003.  Inspired and created by the drinkable “mixed blacks” first made by Italian immigrants who originally settled in Napa Valley, this wine is truly one of a kind.  In the late ’90s, a handful of Napa producers took an interest in making this style of wine.

Price: $36 – $45 (it’s $45 well spent… trust us!)

Wine Spectator – Napa, CA- “Packed with fruit character, this deep, ripe version offers plenty of new oak, revealing a rich texture and zesty flavors of smoky licorice, blackberry cobbler and cracked pepper.”
