To celebrate our 3 month wedding countdown this past Saturday night, we decided to visit one of our top favorite restaurants in southern CT – and that’s Match in South Norwalk.  As many of you have heard, Match recently got a little “face lift”.  Although the restaurant hasn’t changed in a big way, the little changes really gave the place a new, exciting feel.  Since we go to Match often and there are a lot of staple items we love, we were happy to see a mix of some fantastic new dishes along with our classic favorites.

To start off the night, we ordered a bottle of Sangre de Toro Granacha, which was very reasonably priced at $26.00 a bottle.  The wine was excellent – such a great value.

Since there were so many new exciting things on the menu, we ordered 4 small plates to split.  That way, we could try a bit of everything – old & new.  And as usual, every single dish was excellent.  We’ve never been disappointed at Match … the food is just so damn good!

We usually always get the Tuna Tartare (which is still a favorite of ours), but we changed it up and ordered the Steak Tartare.  The Steak Tartare was one of the best tartares we’ve had since being in Italy last year.  Topped with a soft egg, the flavors were totally an explosion in your mouth.  The truffle was perfect in this dish and totally took it to another level.

Next, we went for the Crudo.  The tuna was so delicate and the sweetness of the blood orange complimented the little saltiness of the soy sauce and heat from the chili oil perfectly.  And the basil gave the dish a nice freshness.  To add some texture, the rice crackers gave it a nice crunch.

Another new item on the menu was the Octopus Frites – OMG.  This might be one of my new favorites!  Perfectly charred, not rubbery, this octopus was cooked to perfection!  And the citrus butter … to die for!  This dish is a must have.

Finally, we ended the meal with the “Kisses From Angels”.  The gnocchi was so light and fluffy, but the tender braised short-rib was soooo delicious!  The mint pesto was unexpected and a fantastic addition.

Since we were celebrating and all, we got TWO desserts!  Wild, I know.

Jeff got the tiramisu and I got 2 scoops of hazelnut biscotti gelato.  Both desserts were to die for.  The tiramisu was one of the best we’ve had in a really long time.  Tiramisu is the perfect dessert when done properly because it’s light and fluffy with just the right amount of sweetness.  And my gelato totally hit the spot!

And to end the evening, we moved over to the bar for an after dinner drink.  I had the Rathbone and Jeff went for the Central Grocery.  My Rathbone was such a tease to summertime!
