Good food + good wine + good friends… now that’s amore. A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of dining out at the newly re-opened Amore Cucina & Bar in Stamford, CT. Amore Cucina & Bar is owned by six-time Wold Pizza Champion/Restaurateur/Food Network Judge Bruno DiFabio. Bruno actually started his pizza career in this little Italian Restaurant in the Springdale area of Stamford when he was a teen. Lucky for us, he has come home to re-open it once again! Joined by Chef Jared Falco (formerly the Chef at Washington Prime in SoNo), Jared & Bruno bring this restaurants brings
Shelton, CT. The town where Jeff and I both grew up, the town we met in, the town our family still lives in… Shelton really has come a long way since we grew up there. I have to say, Shelton has a few good spots. One new spot that I’ve been wanting to check out is Center Street Social. I’ve been hearing lots about their Sunday brunch with bottomless Mimosas & Bloody Marys for $15. Sounds pretty good to me! I finally got a chance to visit for Sunday brunch with a few good friends. I must say, it was pretty good!
There are few things on earth that we enjoy more than a good pizza. We are, without a doubt, pizza snobs. Oh – and wine. Can’t forget about wine. We have Jeff’s mother to thank for that… We’ve had pizza & vino everywhere between New Haven and New York City, and from the Italian Alps to Puglia! We’re happy to report that Brick + Wood delivers an authentic taste of Neapolitan pizza courtesy of their amazingly flavorful dough and expertly crafted brick oven. It’s all in the name – a brick oven powered by wood. Before we dove into the
After our last visit to Washington Prime in South Norwalk, CT for dinner, we’ve been back quite a bit. This is the finest of compliments because, hey, there’s just so many good places around to choose from! Last Sunday, we got together with our fellow bloggers and enjoyed a delicious brunch at Washington Prime. They have a new buffet style brunch which honestly is a great format for brunch. Some people (like me) like a breakfasty brunch and some people prefer more lunch brunch. So this way, everyone is happy and can taste a bit of everything. And with the
Rustic charm, a relaxed atmosphere and upscale comfort food are what define Little Barn in Westport. It has all of the ingredients that embody a go-to spot. Whether you just want a Bud Light or are craving a bold red wine, Little Barn has you covered. We spent a quintessential crisp fall night there recently and had the chance to enjoy all of what makes this place special. Outdoor patio Cider – mulled & spiked with Fireball. Black Rock Lemonade – American Harvest Vodka & fresh lemonade with a black cherry-jalapeno puree Giant pretzel with spicy stout mustard and honey
Mondays are not most people’s’ favorite day of the week. Luckily, now that we are deep into the heart of football season there’s Monday Night Football to break up the week. Recently, I had the pleasure of joining the folks at Rizzuto’s in Stamford for a football and poker night! Yes, you read correctly, football and poker…on a Monday! The great crew that runs Rizzuto’s decided that as a fun way to bring people out for a casual weeknight they would organize a free entry poker experience that their general manager hosts as the dealer. You can even redeem your winnings
Ever since the first time I went to a Japanese hibachi restaurant in California as a child, I always get a bit giddy when I walk into one. There’s something about all of the sights, sounds and smells that hibachi brings out. Who doesn’t enjoy some fire on a grill in front of you or sake from a squeeze bottle? Last week I had the chance to check out a Hana Tokyo in Fairfield, which combines a nicely appointed sushi bar with a dining room of hibachi tables. Upon walking into Hana Tokyo, I was greeted warmly by their staff and promptly
Recently we visited a new spot in Stamford called Gastro Bar, located right in the heart of the city. Gastro Bar offers “Mediterranean cuisine with European highlights”, which (I must say) is spot on with the flavors and dishes on the menu. We certainly enjoyed some great pizza, wine, and paella, and other yummy tapas. Inspiration from all over the Mediterranean. To start, we sampled the cocktails & pizza. We eat a lot of pizza, so we often are particular when it comes to pizza. But the dough was delicious and flavorful … the texture was perfect and cooked to perfection! The cocktails were fruity
In our travels we often see many of the same concepts for new restaurants. The terms “New American”, “upscale Italian”, and “gastro pub” specifically come to mind. That is not to say that those concepts do not often turn out to be amazing new spots, but it is always refreshing to see restaurateurs and chefs breaking the mold. Last night, we ventured out of our normal Fairfield County area and headed up the coast into New Haven County. There are many great beach towns in the suburbs east of New Haven and Branford is certainly a great spot among them. That
Before Washington Prime even opened in South Norwalk, CT, Jeff and I had been eyeing the beautiful space and watching it morph into the fantastic “New American” restaurant it turned out to be. Located at the corner of Water Street and Washington Street, this restaurants brings something new and exciting to South Norwalk. Big flavors, a fun take on classic dishes, unique cocktails, and the vibe ties it all together. There’s very few things we DIDN’T try on the menu and there’s really something for everyone. Don’t eat fish? Try their delicious steaks! Don’t eat meat? Try the grouper or the scallops!
