Easy Dinners with McCormick Skillet Sauces

After a crazy week, the last thing you want to do on a Friday night is cook a difficult meal.  So we turned to McCormick Skillet Sauces to make things a little easier on us.  After work, I swung by our local Walmart and picked a few packages up and with 7 sauces to choose from at only $1.69, I was excited to get home and have a yummy, easy meal.  Oh… and relax a bit. Hana Tokyo – Fairfield, CT

Ever since the first time I went to a Japanese hibachi restaurant in California as a child, I always get a bit giddy when I walk into one.  There’s something about all of the sights, sounds and smells that hibachi brings out.  Who doesn’t enjoy some fire on a grill in front of you or sake from a squeeze bottle?  Last week I had the chance to check out a Hana Tokyo in Fairfield, which combines a nicely appointed sushi bar with a dining room of hibachi tables. Upon walking into Hana Tokyo, I was greeted warmly by their staff and promptly

Fall Brussles Sprouts & Kale Salad

There’s nothing like the flavors of fall!  Fall squashes, Thanksgiving meals, bold red wine… As everyone knows, brussels sprouts have been a very popular vegetable over the past few years.  Between last year and this year, we’ve been seeing a lot of kale too.  During our last Stew Leonard’s shopping adventure, we discovered a Kale & Shaved Brussels Sprout Medley that we couldn’t pass up trying out!  This is the perfect fall recipe and will complement any meal.  Plus, it’s healthy and super simple to prepare! We recently learned all the ways you can use Hood Sour Cream in every

A Look @ Greenwich Wine + Food Festival 2014

For all of those who couldn’t make it to the Greenwich Wine + Food Festival last weekend, here is a photo recap to catch you up!  There were SO many highlights … we don’t even know where to begin.  A BIG thank you to Serendipity Magazine for putting on such an amazing event!  It’s really an honor to be part of something so powerful.     There were so many vendors that it was impossible to get to them all.  But we had the opportunity to meet a lot of really great people, including our new friends at BuonCello.  You MUST taste this

Gastro Bar – Stamford, CT

Recently we visited a new spot in Stamford called Gastro Bar, located right in the heart of the city.  Gastro Bar offers “Mediterranean cuisine with European highlights”, which (I must say) is spot on with the flavors and dishes on the menu.  We certainly enjoyed some great pizza, wine, and paella, and other yummy tapas.  Inspiration from all over the Mediterranean. To start, we sampled the cocktails & pizza.  We eat a lot of pizza, so we often are particular when it comes to pizza.  But the dough was delicious and flavorful … the texture was perfect and cooked to perfection!  The cocktails were fruity

Grilled Skirt Steak with Roasted Cherry Tomatos

It’s that time of year where my mother has more cherry tomatoes than she could possibly know what to do with.   They are so delicious!  So any time she is willing to give me some, I gladly say yes.  But we’re not talking about a small little carton of cherry tomatoes… we’re talking a huge BAG of them.  Bring it on. So now comes the question “what should we do with all of these!?”  The easy answer is to put them in salad or make a summer salad out of them with cucumbers and red onion.  However, it’s me…

Jojoto – Branford, CT

In our travels we often see many of the same concepts for new restaurants.  The terms “New American”, “upscale Italian”, and “gastro pub” specifically come to mind.  That is not to say that those concepts do not often turn out to be amazing new spots, but it is always refreshing to see restaurateurs and chefs breaking the mold.  Last night, we ventured out of our normal Fairfield County area and headed up the coast into New Haven County.  There are many great beach towns in the suburbs east of New Haven and Branford is certainly a great spot among them. That

Boozy Berries & Fresh Whipped Cream

This past Saturday, we hosted brunch with some of our friends at our house.  As always, there was WAY too much food 🙂  But that’s why it’s so great. I love brunch.   Although it’s very rare that I actually indulge in brunch, I just love it.  I had a blast thinking about the menu, setting up a “make your own” mimosa bar, and making mini Bacon, Egg, and Cheese sandwiches.  But I wanted to change up the fruit selection a bit, so I made one of my favorite staples – boozy berries and some fresh whipped cream. This recipe

#FoodForAll2014 Community Plates Event

Food for All 2014 is just around the corner!  What is it?  It’s a charity event for Community Plates, the technology-fueled, direct-transfer food rescue organization dedicated to ending food insecurity in America.  Food for All features some of Fairfield County’s newest restaurants showcasing their signature dishes.  And this year, there will even be Craft Cocktail Bars presented some of the most innovative bartenders in the area.
