A Look @ Greenwich Wine + Food Festival 2014

For all of those who couldn’t make it to the Greenwich Wine + Food Festival last weekend, here is a photo recap to catch you up!  There were SO many highlights … we don’t even know where to begin.  A BIG thank you to Serendipity Magazine for putting on such an amazing event!  It’s really an honor to be part of something so powerful.     There were so many vendors that it was impossible to get to them all.  But we had the opportunity to meet a lot of really great people, including our new friends at BuonCello.  You MUST taste this

Gastro Bar – Stamford, CT

Recently we visited a new spot in Stamford called Gastro Bar, located right in the heart of the city.  Gastro Bar offers “Mediterranean cuisine with European highlights”, which (I must say) is spot on with the flavors and dishes on the menu.  We certainly enjoyed some great pizza, wine, and paella, and other yummy tapas.  Inspiration from all over the Mediterranean. To start, we sampled the cocktails & pizza.  We eat a lot of pizza, so we often are particular when it comes to pizza.  But the dough was delicious and flavorful … the texture was perfect and cooked to perfection!  The cocktails were fruity

Grilled Skirt Steak with Roasted Cherry Tomatos

It’s that time of year where my mother has more cherry tomatoes than she could possibly know what to do with.   They are so delicious!  So any time she is willing to give me some, I gladly say yes.  But we’re not talking about a small little carton of cherry tomatoes… we’re talking a huge BAG of them.  Bring it on. So now comes the question “what should we do with all of these!?”  The easy answer is to put them in salad or make a summer salad out of them with cucumbers and red onion.  However, it’s me…

Jojoto – Branford, CT

In our travels we often see many of the same concepts for new restaurants.  The terms “New American”, “upscale Italian”, and “gastro pub” specifically come to mind.  That is not to say that those concepts do not often turn out to be amazing new spots, but it is always refreshing to see restaurateurs and chefs breaking the mold.  Last night, we ventured out of our normal Fairfield County area and headed up the coast into New Haven County.  There are many great beach towns in the suburbs east of New Haven and Branford is certainly a great spot among them. That

Boozy Berries & Fresh Whipped Cream

This past Saturday, we hosted brunch with some of our friends at our house.  As always, there was WAY too much food 🙂  But that’s why it’s so great. I love brunch.   Although it’s very rare that I actually indulge in brunch, I just love it.  I had a blast thinking about the menu, setting up a “make your own” mimosa bar, and making mini Bacon, Egg, and Cheese sandwiches.  But I wanted to change up the fruit selection a bit, so I made one of my favorite staples – boozy berries and some fresh whipped cream. This recipe

Washington Prime – SoNo

Before Washington Prime even opened in South Norwalk, CT, Jeff and I had been eyeing the beautiful space and watching it morph into the fantastic “New American” restaurant it turned out to be.  Located at the corner of Water Street and Washington Street, this restaurants brings something new and exciting to South Norwalk.  Big flavors, a fun take on classic dishes, unique cocktails, and the vibe ties it all together. There’s very few things we DIDN’T  try on the menu and there’s really something for everyone.  Don’t eat fish?  Try their delicious steaks!  Don’t eat meat?  Try the grouper or the scallops!

Fried Zucchini Blossoms

If you grew up in an Italian household, you’ve probably eaten some pretty weird stuff.  One of my favorite “weird things” are zucchini blossoms. Zucchini blossoms are actually becoming pretty popular and there’s probably a chance you’ve even see them on a restaurant menu or two.  There are many ways to make them – you can stuff them and fry them or you can make them into fritters.  In my opinion, the best way to make them is the simple, Calabrese way.  Just fry ’em! You’re not going to find zucchini flowers in the grocery store – they are just too
