Eleven14 Kitchen @ The J House Hotel – Greenwich, CT

Last week, we had the absolute pleasure of dining at Eleven14 Kitchen at the J House Hotel in Greenwich, CT.  What did we think?  We LOVED it.  From the bar, to the décor, to the food, everything was a home run.  If you’re going to spend the money, you must have the ambiance, the cocktails, the food, and the wine to go with it.  And Eleven14 Kitchen delivers on all of it. As we entered the restaurant, we felt the perfect mixture of warmth with trendy, classic details.  We had heard lots of great things about the J House Hotel,

SoNo Dishcrawl – Wednesday, 11/20

On Wednesday, 11/20, grab some friends and join the South Norwalk Dishcrawl! What’s a “Discrawl” you ask?  A Dishcrawl is like a Pubcrawl, but with food! For one filling evening, you’ll get to meet fellow foodies, sample specialty dishes at four restaurants, and meet the chefs and owners that work behind the scenes. Dishcrawl was started in 2010 in San Francisco and its a national company. Dishcrawls are held in NYC, LA, Chicago all major markets across the U.S. Dishcrawls are hosted about once a month in Fairfield County. Before expanding to SoNo Dishcrawled toured through Greenwich, Old Greenwich, Stamford,

Bailey’s Backyard – Ridgefield, CT

The farm-to-table trend is one that has gained a lot momentum and notoriety in Fairfield County and the U.S. as a whole.  Many people claim to source only local and sustainable ingredients.  There are plenty of imitators and quite frankly, frauds, that label themselves as such.  Bailey’s Backyard and its chef, Forrest Pasternack, DO NOT fall into the latter category.  They are the real deal.  From the home infusions at the bar to the amazing entrees, Bailey’s does it right. We started out, like all good nights, with some creative cocktails.  Brian, the sommelier, and his team create their own

Mama’s Boy Southern Table & Refuge – SoNo

It seems like every time we drive by this particular spot in South Norwalk by the Maritime Aquarium, it’s a different restaurant.  Which is too bad because it’s in a great location and a beautiful building.  We’ve been living in SoNo for almost 3 years now and we’ve never visited any of the previous restaurants that were there. But when we saw the new Mama’s Boy signs being put up, the name itself intrigued us. Then when we realized it was southern style food, we were definitely excited to check it out. As people who cook, we get excited to go

The Red Hen at The Westport Inn

The Red Hen, located within Westport Inn in Westport, CT, is quite a hidden gem. With only a handful of tables, the small, cozy restaurant makes you feel like you’re sitting at someone’s kitchen table. The Red Hen uses only local, seasonal, and organic ingredients to craft their dishes and are happy to make modifications to the dishes upon request.  Have allergies?  Don’t like cilantro?  Just simply ask and Chef Paul will be happy to oblige.  Because each dish is crafted fresh and on the spot, they have a lot of flexibility. Chef Paul prepared a nine course tasting menu

Taberna Restaurant – Bridgeport, CT

There are only a handful restaurants in Fairfield County that really do traditional Spanish tapas the right way!  Our favorite, hands down, is Taberna in Bridgeport, CT.  They have such a great variety of tapas – from traditional to modern.  They also have homemade pastas that are just out of this word, fantastic entrees, and even delicious desserts!  The food always is beyond our expectations… and as people who like to cook, it’s hard to impress us.  So trust us, the food is AMAZING and worth every penny! Their wine menu is also something to get excited about!  With a

NOLA: Bringing the Big Easy to SoNo

There are few cuisines that are under-represented in Fairfield County.  One of these is Cajun food made famous in New Orleans and the surrounding areas.  A blend of French, Caribbean and other European and African elements, Cajun cuisine is as warm and comforting as the area where it hails from.  As you can imagine, we were thrilled to hear that a New Orleans inspired restaurant opened recently in South Norwalk.  Cristina and I had a unique opportunity to get a chance to try quite of the few items that the chef, Dan Kardos has created that blend classic Cajun dishes
